For a moment, step away from the rhythm of everyday life and enter a centuries-old ritual of tea, breath and stillness.
For this special morning gathering, Tony from Temple Tree travels from the Netherlands to Berlin to guide us through the story and meditative practice of matcha.
Long before matcha became the drink we know today, tea was deeply connected to contemplative practice. Buddhist monks carried tea traditions from China to Japan, where matcha gradually became intertwined with Zen culture, ritual and meditation.
During the morning, Tony will take us into this history while exploring matcha not simply as a drink, but as a practice — a way to slow down, focus the mind and become more present.
Together, we will prepare and drink two servings of matcha, accompanied by breathwork and a guided meditation.
The meditation will unfold alongside the sound of the Japanese shakuhachi — a bamboo flute with a long connection to Zen practice, traditionally used not only as a musical instrument but also as a tool for meditation through breath and sound.
THE EXPERIENCE INCLUDES
• The origins and journey of matcha from China to Japan • The relationship between tea and contemplative practice • Two servings of matcha • Guided breathwork • Meditation and stillness practice • The sound of the Japanese shakuhachi flute
The morning is an invitation to experience matcha beyond its contemporary image — returning to its relationship with attention, ritual and stillness.
You’ll leave with a deeper understanding of matcha’s origins and a simple practice that can become part of everyday life.
