About the event
On September 19, we’re inviting you to slow down for a Saturday afternoon of deep listening, rare ambient vinyl and Chinese tea, guided by Berlin-based vinyl collector and DJ Christian Bachmann.
At the centre of the session is one of ambient music’s cult classics: The KLF — Chill Out (1990).
Recorded live in a single take at the KLF’s Trancentral studio in London, Chill Out unfolds like an imaginary overnight journey through the American Gulf Coast. Ambient synths drift into field recordings of trains and sheep, fragments of radio broadcasts and preachers, alongside unexpected samples of artists including Elvis Presley and Fleetwood Mac.
Rather than a collection of separate tracks, the album feels like one continuous 45-minute landscape — hypnotic, cinematic and strangely timeless.
For Christian, this is a record made for dedicated listening. The original samples were never cleared, meaning that the original 1990 vinyl pressing offers an experience different from the altered versions available on streaming platforms today. For this session, Christian will bring his rare original pressing to Tea & Vinyl House and play it in full on our analogue sound system.
After the album, Christian will continue with a carefully curated ambient vinyl set, moving through ambient, electronica, neoclassical, neo-jazz and experimental music.
About Christian Bachmann
Christian Bachmann believes that curated listening can be a form of escape.
Classically trained from an early age, he has spent decades exploring music, collecting vinyl and performing across different musical worlds, including with ten different bands. Today, much of his focus is on searching for exceptional ambient records and creating slow-burning listening journeys entirely on vinyl.
His approach combines a musician’s ear with an experienced DJ instinct: rather than demanding attention, his sets create space for it.
Following a recent five-hour ambient vinyl session at Migas, Christian continues to explore a simple idea: what happens when a room stops demanding your attention and starts inviting you to listen?
Rare ambient records. Cosy sounds. No notifications. Sit down, have some tea — and just listen.
